This saturday, June 22, the “Tbilisi Pride” will take place in Georgia. You might remember the terrible pictures of violent attacks by fascists and Christian fundamentalists against LGBTIQ activists during their demonstration for LGBTIQ-rights in 2013.

Solidarity with Tbilisi Pride

It is terrible and shocking to hear that the organizers and participants of the Tibilis Pride have to fear that this terrible experience will repeat. In 2013 the police did not even try to protect the people. This time, they claimed they can’t guarantee the safety of the protesters. In fact Georgia’s president, Salome Surabischwili, even calls the Pride itself “a provocation”.

Many right wingers and religious fundamentalists have already threatened the Pride with violence. But the organizers of the Pride are not intimidated. They refuse to step back and cancel the protest. We are impressed and inspired by these people fighting for their rights and getting on the streets to show their pride to be who they are.

Diesen Samstag, den 22. Juni wird die Tbilisi Pride in Georgien stattfinden. Vielleicht erinnern sich noch einige an die furchtbaren Bilder, als 2013 Faschos und christliche Fundamentalist*innen LGBTIQ Aktivist*innen während einer queeren Demo in Georgien angriffen.

Es ist scheußlich und schockierend, dass die Organisator*innen auch dieses Mal befürchten müssen, dass sich die Gewalt wiederholt. 2013 versuchte die Polizei nichteinmal die Protestierenden zu schützen. Diesmal gaben die offiziellen Behörden schon im Vorhinein bekannt, dass sie nicht für die Sicherheit der Teilnehmenden garantieren könnten. Die Präsidentin Georgiens, Salome Surabischwili, nannte die Pride selbst “eine Provokation”. Schon jetzt rufen mehrere rechte und othodox christliche Fundamentalist*innen zu homofeindlicher Gewalt und Straftaten auf.

Die Organisator*innen der Pride lassen sich jedoch nicht einschüchtern, sie lehnen es ab den Protest abzusagen. Wir sind beeindruckt und inspiriert von diesen Menschen, die für ihre Rechte kämpfen und mit diesen Menschen, die für ihre Rechte kämpfen und mit Stolz auf der Straße zeigen möchten, dass sie sind, wie sie sind!
